Featured on SEAS Engineering Spotlight

Design & fabrication of a novel navigation accessibility device for blind users reliant on tactile information. This is an individual project in fulfillment of the senior capstone.

The device is a 5x4x3in display that actuates 660 moving micro pins to dynamically 3D-model any environment in less than 1 second with 0.1mm accuracy and 2mm pixel size.

This novel actuation mechanism utilizes electropermanent magnets to latch and unlatch pins at their appropriate heights.
