BIOMIMETICS IMAGE DATA EXTRACTION & ANALYSIS

Key Skills: C, image data analysis

I designed and wrote a code in C to extract the shape of the self-watering shrub from real images. The images were then processed and extracted using the C code to produce the contour and shape of the branches. This was used to determine whether there is a preferred orientation of the hanging branches in respect to the direction of the supply of humid air from the sea.

This project highlights a portion of my work on a Smart Biomimetics Project I completed as a part of the Harvard Radcliffe Research Fellowship program that I was accepted into in 2018.

The plant species featured to the left is a unique self-watering shrub which exhibits undiscovered properties. Images of several shrubs were taken from different perspectives and their orientation (south-north-east-west) was determined with a compass on-field.
